Both the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank recently strongly critized the "rich" countries of diverting food grains to make biofuels. Germany's Development Minister stated, "It is unacceptable for the export of agrofuels to pose a threat to the supply situation to the very people already living in poverty." She also stated that the world needs new rules that balance goals, including climate change mitiagation, food security, and social development. They state that we (rich countries) are responsible for at least half of the food crisis because we cut our food aid so we can have more crops for biofuel. With the new administration coming in January, the U.S. will have a closer working relationship with the IMF, World Bank and the U.N. This is not good. I am afraid the U.N. will try to regulate how we use our crops. I am not a big fan of ethanol but I do not want another country or organization telling us how we will use our agricultural products.
